About Dr. Meghan Murray
I earned my doctoral degree in counseling psychology from Cleveland State University. I am currently licensed in the state of Illinois and Ohio.
I utilize an integrative model of care that allows me to tailor my approach to each individual/family depending on their presenting concerns. I often pull from CBT, TF-CBT, CBIT, DBT, ERP, PCIT, and PMT as needed. I like to do this in collaboration with my clients because I want every person to feel empowered in the therapeutic process as they move toward healing, change, and personal growth. When working with children and adolescents, my methods range from talk therapy to play and art therapy, incorporating elements like music and humor to help make therapy a fun, safe, and relaxed space to learn and develop skills. I also like to include family sessions as needed because many times, the magic really happens when a whole family learns how to best support the individual. After all, no one said parenting was easy so if you can learn some more tips and tricks along the way, you and your family will likely be better off for it.
I am originally from Sandusky, Ohio where I grew up right down the street from Cedar Point . Yes, I have ridden ever roller coaster in the park and I used to sing and dance at Johnny Rockets where I worked as a server every summer throughout high school and college. Since attending college at St. Louis University, my life has taken me all over the country. From St. Louis, Missouri to Dallas, Texas to Brooklyn, New York to Chicago, Illinois. All these wonderful places I have called home. Finally though, my partner and I have decided to make Sandusky our permanent home and have moved back to where we both grew up.

I am currently accepting BCBS and Medical Mutual. I plan to get paneled with Aetna soon. If I do not accept your insurance, please reach out to me about my direct pay rates. I can also create a superbill for you to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.

Yes! I can run your insurance or you can pay direct pay (sometimes this is the same as your copay anyway). Depending on the format of the group (if it’s a rolling group versus a set 6 to 8 week group) I will charge no more than $35 per week. My prices will always be listed on any group flyer so you will know the cost upfront.

Yes! My direct pay rate is $175 for a 60 minute session. Unfortunately I cannot accept sliding scale rates since I am paneled with insurance.

For individual therapy, I can work with children as young as 3-5 years old. It is important to keep in mind that work with children this young mostly involves working with parents so I can help you be the agents of change at home. Right now, my age cutoff is 21/22 years old. That is mostly because I am attempting to service the child/adolescent population in an area that does not have a lot of providers that work with children and their families. I’d like to prioritize spots in my caseload for children/adolescents who would benefit from in-person support.
For psychological evaluations, again I am focusing on servicing the child/adolescents population in this area. Right now, I will only be testing children under the age of 17 years old. As I expand my practice, I also plan to expand my testing age range. That said, please reach out if you’re having trouble accessing care in this area of need. It may prompt me to order the supplies needed to test young adults.

Yes! I accept insurance for psychological evaluations. If I don’t accept your insurance, I will happily create a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. I will also provide 3 to 6 month payment plans to help offset any financial burden an evaluation can place on you/your family. Additionally, I accept HSA/FSA cards, Cherry and Care Credit.

The cost of testing highly depends on the questions that need answered. Below is an overview of what the entire process looks like.
Testing evaluations usually consist of two initial intake appointments. One of these involves me meeting with the parent(s) to get a sense of the main concerns. The second intake involves me meeting your child. This helps me get a baseline feel for your child’s needs and hear from your child about what is tricky for them. It also gives your child a chance to get to know me, learn about what testing involves, and get a feel for the space. This really helps eliminate initial test day jitters.
The actual testing day itself is long and usually lasts around 5 to 6 hours but can be broken up into a few days depending on the age of the child. I know this sounds long but to most kids its like a “more fun” school day because we take game and play breaks throughout.
During the week of testing/intakes, I will also be reaching out to any other providers or school personnel that can help provide additional information about your child’s needs to help make sure the recommendations are tailored to your child.
I then sit and summarize my findings and write the report which takes me anywhere from 4 to 6 hours. A week to two weeks later, we meet for the feedback appointment. This is an hour long appointment where we go through the report together. You can ask as many questions as you want and we can discuss next steps in terms of getting your child on their way to getting their support needs met. You will also be provided with a copy of this report to share with anyone involved in your child’s care.
Here’s an overall good faith estimate based on my direct pay rates related to the breakdown of costs depending on the evaluation being done:
ADHD Testing - hourly rate = $170 leading to a total of $1,530
ASD Testing - hourly rate = $170 leading to a total of $1,190
Academic Testing - hourly rate = $170 leading to a total of $1,190
A Comprehensive Evaluation (a combination of the concerns mentioned above) is a total of around $1,875
